Pakistani all-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect. The 34-year-old made the announcement on Friday, November 24, 2023, bringing an end to an eight-year career with the Pakistan side.
Wasim made his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe and went on to represent Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20Is. He was a valuable member of the Pakistan team, known for his left-arm spin bowling and handy batting lower down the order.
In a statement announcing his retirement, Wasim said: "It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from international cricket. I have always cherished the opportunity to represent my country and I am grateful for the memories I have made along the way. However, I believe that now is the right time for me to step away and focus on my family and other commitments."
Wasim's retirement is a significant loss for Pakistan cricket. He was a versatile player who could contribute with both bat and ball, and he will be difficult to replace. However, his decision to retire is understandable, and he should be proud of what he has achieved in his career.
Wasim will continue to play domestic cricket in Pakistan and around the world. He is also a successful businessman, and he will focus on his business ventures in the coming years.
On behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), we would like to thank Imad Wasim for his outstanding contribution to Pakistan cricket. He was a true ambassador for the game, and he will be sorely missed.
