Saudi Arabia is planning to build the world's fastest, longest, and tallest roller coaster, with a top speed of 251 kilometers per hour (kmph) and a vertical drop off the side of a cliff. The coaster, called Falcon's Flight, will be located at Six Flags Qiddiya, a new theme park under development outside of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Falcon's Flight will be 4.1 kilometers (2.5 miles) long and will feature a 160-meter (525-foot) vertical drop. It will also have three electromagnetic propulsion launch systems that will propel riders to speeds of up to 251 kmph (155 mph). The coaster will be able to accommodate up to 20 passengers per ride.
The design and engineering of Falcon's Flight is being led by Intamin Amusement Rides, a Swiss manufacturer of roller coasters and other amusement park attractions. Intamin is also the company behind some of the world's other tallest and fastest roller coasters, including Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey, and Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point in Ohio.Falcon's Flight is expected to open in late 2024.
The construction of Falcon's Flight is part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 plan, which aims to diversify the country's economy and attract more tourists. The plan includes a number of other large-scale projects, such as the development of a new city called Neom and the construction of a Red Sea tourism resort.
